The American Urogynecologic Society is a professional organization dedicated to research and education in urogynecology and to improved care for women with lower urinary tract disorders.
Interstitial Cystitis Assocation (ICA)
Founded in 1984, the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) is a not-for-profit health organization dedicated to providing patient and physician educational information and programs, patient support, public awareness, and, most importantly, research funding. The ICA works nationwide to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on IC; to provide IC patients, their families, and their friends with a support network; to educate the medical community and the public about IC; to advocate in the public and private sectors for research funding and patients' rights; and to promote and provide research funding to find effective treatments and a cure for IC.
Interstitial Cystitis Network (ICN)
Since 1995, the Interstitial Cystitis Network has been serving urology patients, medical-care providers, and the research community and uniting patients and providers throughout the world. The theme of the ICN's website is to encourage IC patients to become active participants in their own medical care. The network offers INC-related news stories, specialty columns, an ask an MD column, a patient's handbook, and many other features.
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, founded in 1950, conducts and supports research on many of the most serious diseases affecting public health. The institute supports much of the clinical research on the diseases of internal medicine and related subspecialty fields as well as many basic science disciplines. The institute is divided into five divisions: the Division of Intramural Research; the Division of Extramural Research; the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic Diseases; the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition; the Division of Kidney, Urologic, and Hematologic Diseases; and the Division of Nutrition Research Coordination.
The Simon Foundation for Continence
The Simon Foundation was formed in 1983 as a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to providing assistance and support to those suffering from urinary incontinence. The work of The Simon Foundation includes aiding those afflicted with incontinence, aiding families of those suffering from incontinence, creating public awareness, reviewing relevant legislation, and encouraging the medical professions' interest in this long-neglected area of healthcare.
